Melbourne’s SAATSUMA is the collaborative electronic project of Memphis Kelly and Cesar Rodrigues. A combination of soulful vocals, warped synthesisers and gritty textures, the duo produce an effortless blend of raw vulnerability and lucid darkness.
Their upcoming new single, ‘Crescent’ was debuted in August and in SAATSUMA’S Memphis Kelly’s own words, explores “the undeniable energy of the moon and its effect on our emotions and behaviours. Our deep connection to the land that we’re often so unaware of...We’re often so resistant to work on and better ourselves, that we ultimately miss out on exploring this deeper sense of belonging, wholeness and true self-awareness.”
SAATSUMA released their debut album, Overflow, in September 2017. The album is written and produced by Memphis and Cesar, mixed by Dream Kit (Declan Kelly) and mastered by Lachlan Carrick.
On stage SAATSUMA are a five-piece live act, fronted by Memphis Kelly and joined by Cesar Rodrigues, Maddy Kelly, Lachlan Stuckey and Andrew Congues. They’ve shared bills with the likes of Dorsal Fins, Thelma Plum, Olympia, Vera Blue, Yeo and PNAU. No strangers to the festival scene they made their mark at BIGSOUND 2016and have since played on lineups for Paradise, The Hills Are Alive, and St Kilda Festival. Danceable and dynamic, yet intimate and emotive, SAATSUMA’s live show is an unmissable and highly immersive sonic experience.
