Purple Disturbance
Four-piece punk powerhouse Purple Disturbance bring a raw, high-energy sound built on driving riffs, sharp lyrics and plenty of attitude. Drawing from the likes of The Stooges, Black Flag, Ramones and Radio Birdman, with a modern edge reminiscent of IDLES and Amyl and the Sniffers, the band balance straight-up punk energy with a sharp sense of humour and a willingness to take aim at the world around them.
Since forming, Purple Disturbance have quickly built a reputation for energetic live shows and a growing catalogue of singles, including ‘Millie and Gus’, ‘Juice Stick’, ‘Queen Bee’ and ‘Criticise, Penalise, Attack and Slam’. Their music has found its way onto Triple J Unearthed High, while ‘Millie and Gus’ featured in the 2025 Rip Curl surf film Dunno.
With latest singles ‘Sara Lee’ and ‘Rob Lowe’ adding to their growing catalogue, Purple Disturbance are gearing up for the release of their debut EP BUGALUGS, followed by a run of shows across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
BUGALUGS is a deliberately raw and unapologetic nod to the band’s explosive live sound. More than just a collection of songs, the EP serves as a time stamp, capturing the final stretch of their teenage years and the strange, chaotic space between adolescence and entering the real world. That restless energy runs through every track, while teetering on the edge of being completely out of control — messy, frantic and unapologetic — mirroring the intensity and unpredictability of the band’s live set. It’s a snapshot of four young musicians caught between growing up and refusing to slow down, capturing exactly where Purple Disturbance are right now.
Frontman Thom brings a commanding presence to the stage, pairing sharp observations and biting lyrics with a confidence that pulls audiences into every song. Josh holds down the low end with pulsing, unpredictable basslines, while Jess brings raw punk power behind the kit, with a groove that keeps the band on their toes. Jed’s Gretsch guitar cuts through the rhythm section with a distinctive grind, tying it all together and giving Purple Disturbance their balance of energy, unpredictability and precision.
The band have shared stages with Grinspoon, Jebediah, The Screaming Jets, Dune Rats, Private Function, Guttermouth, Beddy Rays and British India, continuing to carve out their own place in the Australian punk scene with a sound that’s loud, irreverent and unmistakably Purple Disturbance.
