Drapht Announces Dancing John Doe Tour
Ever since Jimmy Recard hit top 10 in the 2008 Triple J Hottest 100 , it's like everything Drapht touches turns to gold. His proceeding fourth album (and first as an Obese Records alumni), 2011's The Life Of Riley produced some of the best singles in Australian hip hop history, earning a staggering seven ARIA nominations, and a win for Best Urban Album . Establishing Drapht for both his honesty and his ability to pen a hook, it was a breakthrough album in the truest sense. Now, back with another insanely catchy single in Dancin' John Doe , Drapht has dropped the follow-up that fans have been waiting for.
Taking things back to his roots, Drapht (aka Paul Reid) has once again teamed up with Perth
legend Dazastah (Downsyde) who co-produced Drapht's first two records:
Pale Rider (2003) and Who Am I (2005).
Taken from his fifth album 7 Mirrors (due later in the year),Dancin' John Doe carries on in the spirit of gold-selling single Sing It (The Life Of Riley) , with its irrepresible chorus and mantra of living your life without caring what other people think – a theme throughout Drapht's body of work. This spirit of living a life true to your heart is at the core of why fans connect so strongly with Drapht.
Mixed by Steve Schramm (San Cisco, Paul Kelly, Cat Empire), Dancin' John Doe is irresistably
catchy, kicking off straight away with a big Drapht sing-along chorus, layered with vocal, lyrical and
instrumental hooks over an infectious, funky backbeat. An instant party anthem just begging for a
crowd. “You can't tell John Doe how to dance / See I can dance, I can dance like my name's John
Doe / nobody knowing who I am ” - a triumphant celebration of not giving a fuck what people think
of you... of dancing like no one knows who you are. To celebrate the release of the new single, Drapht
will take the Dancin' John Doe Tour Australia- wide in August, hitting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle and Adelaide. Drapht's first national run since 2013, the Dancin' John Doe Tour will be the Perth rapper's first chance in two years to connect with fans and drop new tunes ahead of the highly-anticipated release of 7 Mirrors.
It's gonna be a big year!
