Spiderbait Announce Black Betty 20th Anniversary Tour
New World Artists are Exclusive Booking Agents for Spiderbait.
The narrative of the Spiderbait story is so fantastical it could only be based in truth: three friends from a small country Australian town taking on the Australian music scene on their own terms and emerging triumphant 25 years later, the friendships unscathed but their band one of the biggest and best on the national scene.
As brash and confident as they are strange and uncompromising, the three founding members of Spiderbait – Janet, Whitt and Kram – started humbly in the rural NSW township of Finley, the fervent music lovers taking inspiration from everything from Slayer to The Bangles and meshing into one intoxicating and unique brew.
Having learned their trade bashing out their idiosyncratic thrash-pop tunes in the shed on Janet’s family’s farm, they soon relocated down to Melbourne and immersed themselves in that rich and fertile scene, quickly becoming important cogs of that important musical machine.
From there they consolidated their status as national treasures, their popularity spanning three decades and showing no signs of abating. They’ve released seven acclaimed albums, each attaining gold, platinum or double platinum status and have combined Australian sales of over one million units, Black Betty over 150M youtube plays and over 160M spotify streamsstreams on spotifyeo has had over 132 million views alone.
Spiderbait have also swept up pretty much every accolade there is to achieve on the Australian scene, having taken home numerous ARIA Awards, chalked up a number one single (their 2004 cover of Leadbelly’s Black Betty) and was the first Australian band to top the then prestigious triple j Hottest 100 with their smash hit Buy Me A Pony in 1996. They kept the hits coming and have become one of the biggest headline acts in Australia having criss-crossed the country innumerable times on their own sold out national headline tours, while also headlining and featuring on the largest festival events in the country as a well as appearing on every major concert festival lineups including Big Day Out, Meredith, Falls Festival, Groovin the Moo’, A Day On The Green, Splendour In The Grass and Good Things Festival and Special Events such as F1 Australian Grand Prix.
Their distinctive music and cheeky arrangements make Spiderbait difficult to pigeonhole as their unique Rock Royalty stylings allowing them to share stadiums with both Guns N’ Roses and Pink and to totally dominate, as well as playing alongside everyone from Beastie Boys to Rollins Band and Midnight Oil to Cold Chisel.
The outpouring of love and affection for Spiderbait is astounding in both volume and intensity has endeared them to hordes of fans for life and there are more chapters to come in the Spiderbait story and it will be achieved by three great mates and be soundtracked by music that’s catchy and uncompromising.
