PRIDELANDS Sign To Resist Records & Release New Single

Melbourne-based, five-piece metal band Pridelands are thrilled to announce their brand new single, Heavy Tongue on their new label home, Resist Records.

"We’re insanely humbled to be working with Resist Records for this release. So many of the bands on their roster have influenced us in some way over the years. Some we consider good friends, and some played a massive part in shaping and inspiring us a decade ago when we were just kids jamming in a garage. Feels crazy to think back to that and look at how things have evolved to this point, so we’re very grateful, and equally as excited to see where it may take us."  says guitarist, Liam Fowler

Heavy Tongue follows their 2019 single, Dark Sources. It was written by Pridelands, produced by Jamie Marinos and Pridelands, mixed by George Lever at G1 Productions UK (Loathe, Sleep Token) and mastered by Ermin Hamidovic at Systematic Productions AUS (Architects, Northlane, Periphery).

LISTEN TO HEAVY TONGUE HERE

Heavy both instrumentally and in terms of its message, this song shines a harsh spotlight on the corruption and mismanagement of the devastating bushfires that raged through Australia from 2019 to 2020. An ominous drone introduces the song, like a shame spiral spewing forth rapidfire riffs and pelting drums. Simultaneous clean and unclean vocals spit unanimous vitriol: “By the time that you acceptThat we’re on fireThe midnight oil spills out from the urnBut all our beds are damned to burn away.”

"Lyrically, the new single is at heart, a song about corruption in our home country of Australia, both from its inception to the current day. The track highlights tones of inequity, ranging from parliamentary ignorance, to the lack of indigenous cultural teaching in our education systems, to gender inequality. Too many of Australia’s inhabitants “graduate” from their places of education without learning a single thing of the culture, rituals and environmental preservation tactics that the First Nation’s peoples carved the way for so many years prior to the white man’s invasion of this land."

After winning the triple j Unearthed competition to perform on UNIFY Gathering’s main stage in 2019, Pridelands ticked off a major band goal early on in their career. “Playing on stages like that is what we wanna be doing,” Fowler confirms, “so to get the opportunity to play UNIFY was just out of this world.”

Pridelands are the main support for the upcoming Gravemind Australian tour.
